Last week, Audio Doughnuts took to South-East London’s bass centre, Corsica Studios, to throw their best party to date.
I arrived early, real early, said my hellos to label boss Henry, some other friends and the usual Audio Doughnuts lot, then grabbed a drink and gravitated to Room 2 – to catch the beginning of Crypt (grilled for DIN before his recent signing to Get Some Records) and Kabuto’s b2b set, which was, in the vernacular of Northerners, a right treat! I hadn’t caught a Crypt set before and having been locked to his Soundcloud for a while, it was good to finally see him doing his thing.
Next was Korus and Artek, both outstanding DJs, producers and all-round good guys. They stepped up with a lead-heavy set, throwing some UKG bangers in wherever possible. While they played out, I went to grab a drink in Room 1 and was immediately struck by DJ Luck and MC Neat’s ‘I’m Sorry’, channeling through the Room 1 sound system – and I’m acutely embarrassed to say that this guilty pleasure is one of my favourite tunes. After asking many gurning teens about the id of the DJ, I managed to extract a coherent answer from someone who looked like a middle-aged mother. The DJ was Tymz Two.
I stayed for the end of ‘I’m Sorry’, caught a bit of ‘Babycakes’, then left to catch the last of Korus and Artek’s b2b. Though I’d set up camp in Room 2 for much of the night, I did manage to have a listen to some of Pinch’s set, which was, of course, a mighty one. Back down the corridor, Teeza was in Room 2, bringing 4 heavy-weight MCs to the booth with him– Gemini, Rocks, Krason and Darkos, all passing the mic. Teeza played out some Grime classics, along with a load of shit I need to get hold of.
